21 Book Recs based on the Camp Half-Blood Cabins

Can we ignore all this extra space up here for my sanity, please? Thank you.

What a fancy intro! I know right *eye roll emoji*. Literally had to deadass figure out how to use HTML to get that half-blood to strike though and still look nice and I don't even know why it was a struggle because when I figured it out it was so easy? Whatever, I'm dumb.

Anyway, it's me back with a post that isn't a review, and just so happens to pair splendidly with my website title. If the (few, ha) people who actually do follow me haven't read Percy Jackson, what're you doing? Go read them, like now. But, I'm sure most of us bookworms grew up with the magnificence that are the Percy Jackson books, and definitely not that of the movies (though I kind of stand by the people who think the movies would have been pretty good if they were just themselves and not associated with the name Percy Jackson, you can't really deny when we were all addicted to the Lotus Scene™ anyway…) This post is in honor of Rick's anthology (I guess we're calling it?), The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities (gotta get my hands on that soon, please and thanks)

Me being the amazing person I am, here's a linked Buzzfeed Percy Jackson Godly Parent Quiz. The Buzzfeed quiz does not have the minor God(dess) Cabins, so here is another (this one doesn't have Hera or Artemis since they technically don't have any children in PJO). And lastly, here is the official Rick Riordan Cabin Quiz (this one does not have the minor Cabins either).

Onto the (Olympians + Hades) Cabins!

Cabin 1 (Zeus) : Aurora Rising

  • Zeus is the God of the Sky (and Lightning). Aurora Rising is literally just the first space/sky book that came to mind.

  • Another book recommendation for Zeus would be Red Queen, I would have put that but I already made the graphic and I am LaZy.

Cabin 2 (Hera) : Serpent & Dove

  • Hera. Oh how we dislike her. Goddess of Marriage or as we know her Wrecker of Our Precious PJO Characters' Lives. High and mighty Miss Queen of the Gods whose personal motto is "I don't run around having affairs with mortals unlike my husband, I only make his children regret the day they were born."

  • On that note, my recommendation here is Serpent & Dove, a.k.a. one of the few times we consent to the Arranged Marriage Trope.

Cabin 3 (Poseidon) : Daughter of the Pirate King

  • Poseidon, Earthshaker, other names I can't think of at the moment. God of the Seas (and about a billion other things, including earthquakes, as evidenced by…Earthshaker…)

  • First thing that comes to mind when you think of the ocean my fellow fiction readers? Yah, pirates, no beach days in sight. That and drowning because evil creatures live in the depths…

  • So, the recommendation here is obviously the pirate based: Daughter of the Pirate King.

Cabin 4 (Demeter) : Girl, Serpent, Thorn

  • Demeter is the Goddess of Agriculture. This one was definitely hard to pick because I couldn't think of any plant related books specifically, but Girl, Serpent, Thorn definitely has more plants in it than most, I guess.

Cabin 5 (Ares) : The Poppy War

  • Ares, God of War. The Poppy War. No explanation necessary. It helps that Ares and Rin are both psychotic too…

Cabin 6 (Athena) : Legend

  • Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. Legend, book of the two smartest MCs in the land. Also known as California…(I think?)

Cabin 7 (Apollo) : Daisy Jones & The Six

  • Apollo, God of basically everything, but mostly Poetry, Prophecy, and Archery. Along with these, he's also the God of Music and Daisy Jones & The Six is probably the most drama filled band book in existence.

Cabin 8 (Artemis) : The Cruel Prince

  • Artemis is the Goddess of the Hunt and Wild Animals (among other things).

  • This one was kind of a doozy, to be honest. Ew, I've never said "doozy" in my life, but. There's Jude, mostly likely the first MC most YA readers recall when thinking of a badass female MC who don't need no man to get what she wants. And then there's Artemis, basically the same but way cooler.

  • I tried to think of a book with a female MC that had a bow and arrow and all I could think of was ACOTAR, like Feyre at the beginning? But like, she never used her bow after that (I don't think, at least) and she's defo got lots of men in her life and definitely didn't drink poison to get away from said men, so ya know…Jude.

  • Also Cardan is basically a wild animal (furry, much).

Cabin 9 (Hephaestus) : Throne of Glass

  • Hephaestus is the God of the Forge, who in Percy Jackson also happens to birth a son that has fire powers. Therefore, I went along the lines of the one and only Bad Boy Supreme, Leo Valdez. Leo has fire powers (obviously) and Celaena/Aelin has fire powers (obviously).

Cabin 10 (Aphrodite) : Lovely War

  • This one's definitely a given, Lovely War, a World War I romance narrated by a Greek Goddess. Guess who the goddess is, you've got one try. Yeah, Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty.

Cabin 11 (Hermes) : Six of Crows

  • Hermes, God of Travelers, but more commonly known as the God of Thieves and Tricksters. Six of Crows, also known as the first heist/thieves book we all think of and we all love.

  • Mr. D, Dionysus, God of Wine. This one was kind of hard to choose, but Monty gets drunk (quite a bit) and it often hinders the plot and character relationships, so I figured it's as good a recommendation as any.

  • Another book you could pick up if you're in Dionysus' Cabin is Ariadne.

Cabin 13 (Hades) : Scythe

  • Ah, Scythe. One of my favorite books/series of all time. Basically about a super futuristic society in which death has been conquered, but people still have to die to hinder overpopulation. Hades is the God of the Underworld and generally thought of as the God of Death (though that namesake falls to Thanatos). So, what better book that one that focuses primarily around people dying.

Onto the (Minor God[dess]) Cabins!

Cabin 14 (Iris) : Carry On

  • I figured a queer book would work best for Iris, Miss Goddess of the Rainbow so…Also Rainbow Rowell need I say more?

Cabin 15 (Hypnos) : Renegades

  • Renegades probably would have worked better associated with some God of fighting or betrayal or some such, but there are a lot of books with those themes and the MC of Renegades, Nova, just so happens to have the power to put people to sleep. Which works fabulously with Hypnos, God of Sleep.

Cabin 16 (Nemesis) : Vicious

  • Nemesis is the Goddess of Retribution. Victor, in Vicious, spends the whole book trying to get back at his former friend Eli. They're both portrayed as semi-villains at times, and it's not like nemesis is often seen as a savior (*cough, Trojan War, cough*)

Cabin 17 (Nike) : The Song of Achilles

  • The Song of Achilles is a pretty basic, but obvious recommendation for Nike, Goddess of Victory. Another, maybe a little less well known book would be Lore.

  • Hebe is the Goddess of Youth or the Prime of Life. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is just about the best coming-of-age novel I've ever read. That is all.

Cabin 19 (Tyche) : Little Thieves

  • Tyche is Goddess of Luck. Little Thieves happens to have a main character who is the goddaughter of both Fortune and Death. No better recommendation has ever been made. But sadly, this book has not released yet (October 5, 2021, mark the calenders). So, keep this book in mind if any of you are in Tyche's cabin, but as far as a book that has released, we have Caraval.

Cabin 20 (Hectate) : A Deadly Education

  • Hectate is the Goddess of Magic. A Deadly Education is about a magic school. Clearly a lot of books could have worked for this, but I think A Deadly Education has magic in it that's more clearly a centerpiece than most other books, so.

BONUS: Hestia

The Hearth (Hestia) : The House in the Cerulean Sea

  • Hestia is the Goddess of the Hearth and Home and while she doesn't have a cabin at Camp Half-Blood, she's more present that most of the Gods at camp, so of course, we need a recommendation for her.

  • The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of the most found-family based books, I've ever read so no better one could be recommended. Definitely a must-read anyway!
